Europe has a unique opportunity to strengthen its competitiveness, security and technological sovereignty. With unprecedented investment underway in defence, green and digital transitions, the focus is now on maximising Europe’s capacity to deliver impact at scale.
On March 5, DTU hosts an event where the forthcoming report From strategy to action - closing the European innovation and technology gap will be published. The report is authored by Hello Tomorrow and DTU and is based on the key messages from the ASCEND Innovation Conference, hosted in Copenhagen in November 2025. The report delivers actionable recommendations on the implementation of the EU Startup and Scaleup Strategy and further highlights the pivotal role of universities in enhancing European competitiveness and reaching technological autonomy.
As engines of invention, talent development and deep-tech innovation, universities form the foundation of Europe’s technological leadership - from AI and quantum to advanced materials, biotech and dual-use capabilities. Closer integration of universities can accelerate the translation of research excellence into industrial capability, support the growth of start-ups and scale-ups, and strengthen Europe’s innovation ecosystems in strategic sectors.
